SECTORS & HISTORY
The PWMW has two main seperate sectors - Saltpan & Refuge Cove and Clareville. Information about each sector can be seen below
SALTPAN & REFUGE COVE
CLAREVILLE
In 1985, as a result of a number of boats being broken into, 14 boat owners in Salt Pan Cove formed a `boat watch'. In 1988, Salt Pan and Refuge Cove Co-op was formed to manage the private moorings in the area. . In 1989, the Co-op en masse, joined the Marine Neighbourhood Watch bringing 125 additional members and a name change to Marine Watch. An overnight watchman roster where members stay on board their vessel at their moorings was introduced.
Any suspicious activity is immediately reported by radio or phone to the Broken Bay Water Police. Boatowners do not investigate or leave their mooring or undertake any form of patrol. Their job is to observe and report. . Bi-monthly meetings are held at the Royal Motor Yacht Club, Newport on the first Tuesday of every second month. Popular speakers ensure big attendances. The Broken Bay Water Police also report on current activities.
Clareville Marine Watch consists of 125 members who have undertaken to spend six nights per year onboard their boats to provide a deterent to would be theives and vandals in the Clareville area. . The area of the Clareville Watch extends from Taylors Point to the south to Paradise Beach to the north. This area is home to some 600 moored baots and is divided into 3 sub-sectors.
 * Sector A - Taylors point to Delecta Ave,
 * Sector B - Delecta Ave to Avalon Sailing Club
 * Sector C - Avalon Sailing Club to Paradise Beach.
Members are rostered on for a night every 2 months, this system gives us a resaonable spread over the area. The roster is posted out to all members every 2 months and contains members boat names and contact numbers onboard and at home. . Membership is free and we do not have a committee. The Zone Commander does the photocopying and, a mailout at Hornsby Maritime makes up all rostering and newsletters.
When a boat owner makes application to join the watch he or she indicates which nights they do not wish to be rostered on and this information is registered on their roster detail card and adhered to. Clareville Marine Watch is part of the Pittwater area and its bi-monthly meeting is held at the Royal Motor Yacht Club on the first Tuesday of every even month.
